It has recently come to my attention that the Bush Administration has put out a new [executive] order. The secretary of treasury has been given the affirmative to "seize the property of any person who undermines efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq." Read here. As it is, I have yet to see any U.S. papers report (or comment) on this; as can be said for the U.S. news as well.
... what can I say? In today's day and age, we try to enforce many different aspects of our constitution. But, in the process, we lose many of the freedoms granted to us through these means. The fact that the American people do nothing to stop these injustices does not make it any better. I do not know how many liberations we shall lose before enough step up...
Now, I'd venture to say that some of my readers might disagree with me. Of course, opinions are your own but I might try to sway you :) Our government is not exactly 'nice' per se. They can be unpredictable (and most definitely corrupt in some cases), so at a single sign of protest, you could be out on the streets or unwillingly accepting charity from a close family member. I'm sorry to say that I don't trust the American sovereignty. Being as that is, I get the feeling that those that do rebel against the war (no matter how much or how little) will be hounded by governmental officials. I always thought to say that America is going to the dogs on a silver platter....

Coming from a country other than the US, it is a common known fact among people that the US administration is considered like a globe policing force barking all over the world depending where its profit potential resides. The excuses they shout out are laughable and any person with a half functioning brain could see that.
However, it does annoy me that whatever the world thinks of current US politics, it seems to translate unfairly to some extent to the people of USA as well. There are people in the US that 'get' the real picture and do something to rectify it in their own way. Problem is their voices are not heard... and that is the first sign of a democracy mulfunctioning...
Still I am hopeful that in the upcoming elections something will change because at the moment it is a dead end situation.
P.s. One thing I really hate about the attitude of some US people even in blogging is that as soon as you say something negative or critical about the US you are deemed something like "public enemy number 1" or something... I mean for a nation that "prides" itself on the democratic values it was founded on, that is so undemocratic:) Democracy does not mean being unanimous about everything.It means having the right to voice your uniqueness and objection without fear. Trust me I am Greek , I know, democracy was founded in this little dot on the map called Greece after all,LOL!
Hope your test is negative but even if it isn't you will adapt to it and move on. I mean things could be worse, you could be mad like me:)

Well, sounds like it' another typical example of the "either you're with us or against us" mentality of the Bush administration. Everything's not so black and white in today's society, is it?

deadpoolite - Haha Well, I've always been curious what the rest of the world thinks about us (and our would be god-awful government). I hold nothing against you for criticizing the US, I can at least understand where you're coming form. And agree with you.
But like you say, our governmental officials make up the epidermis of our country. So unfortunately, most people only see that top layer, not below where we (as a whole) exist a one big multicultural blend with opinions (although not always valued.
Perhaps we should take a dive into the past and restructualize (<--- is that even a word?) our political system to fit the viewpoint of an actual democracy, because we seem to be loosing those liberties lately.

I totally agree that the administration is getting out of hand. At least elections are coming up in '08, but unfortunately, it isn't soon enough. Bush is taking liberty after liberty as president and we need to get someone in there that will restore liberties.
I didn't like Bill Clinton, but I am starting to think Hillary is the person for the job right about now. She is a Ball-Breaking Democrat who isn't going to allow the US to be ruled over, even by herself.
I've just been stunned at the craziness that Bush has been putting forth over his second term. I regret to say that I voted for him. He is less popular than flatulence right now and he needs to see that and change what he is doing.
Hope for the future is about all I can muster right now, but we'll see what is in store for the country.

I am not American, but as a good European I have an opinion about America! However, unlike most Europeans, I don't bash on America...
President Bush is on everybody's mouth, he's the theme of any political rendez-vous, but really: every politician makes mistakes! What I keep asking myself is: if the Americans were so displeased about him, why did they give him a second term?!
I supported America when it decided to invade Afeghanistan and Iraque; it was not a joke what happened in the 9/11; and since then threats have been on the rise (would things be different if USA wouldn't have counter-attacked? I very much doubt it!)! We have (and I include Europe here, cause we had similar attacks in Madrid -4/11/04; in London 7/7/05) to tackle this type of situation the best way possible!
About corruption: the whole world is corrupted, it's not just there! and it won't go away, cause humans are taught to be corrupts since childhood ("if you behave mommy/daddy will give you x/y")! Plus, corruption on this side of the world is much better then in some countries. Take Africa, for instance: rulers take western money in exchange of natural resources, and drug tests, whatever...and they don't build infrastructures, small hospitals, enough roads, don't invest in technology to store water...nothing! As for our countries...they're corrupt, but we have the basics....

Power does strange things to the mind of people. Bush does indeed shock not only his country men, but the world as well. But what to do what to do? I agree that Hillary is perhaps the best choice this upcoming presidential election. Let's just hope that should she make office, our administration does not make up some political scandal that takes wastes precious time not allowing crucial changes to be made.

Ah, you are right. But truly, corruption must begin somewhere. Over the years it gets worse and worse and worse. I don't look forward to a future civil war within our country because our government makes stupid decisions that the people are less than happy with.
I haven't got a clue why some revoted for Bush... but what does it matter. What's done is done. We can't go back in time to change the past, all we can do is hope we can the future on par.
